I’ve been mulling over the name for the second Teddy book and I’m now 99% sure it’s going to be, “Teddy and the Hordesmen’s Master”. It fits nicely with the book’s content, has the feel I want to get across, and might make some people ask questions about what it means - and maybe question the grammar too.
As far as I can see the grammar is correct - i.e. the Master of the Hordesmen, c.f. the “Men’s room” - but if you can see any glaring error then please tell me NOW! It’s the ideal time :)
The book’s up to 40,000 words now, so it’s getting there. I think it will probably top out about about 55,000 words because the last two chapters need a lot of extra words, and some of the mid to late chapters need a lot of revisions too. I also find that once I’ve finished it’s entirely possible that I’ll need to do some structural stuff, addition writing to fill in gaps in the narrative or logic, and general editing, although obviously that can make the word count go up or down.
Then there’s another layer of writing that I want to put ‘on top’ (I can’t say what, it’s a secret, shh!) that will help to give the book that special lasting feeling you get that stays with you after you’ve read it. At least, I hope so.
Predicted release date? I’d guess October: the draft will need to be read by at least three people who can give me feedback, followed by re-writes, and then it takes a long time to get it proof read (I really screwed up on that point last time) and quite a long time for the art work, printing process, promotional materials etc. Maybe later than October, come to think of it!
